Garlic Cheese Drop Biscuits

Wow, I knew it had been a while since I wrote a blog post, but it wasn’t until I sat down to write this post for my garlic cheese drop biscuits that I realized it’s been nearly 3 months!

And what a 3 months they have been. Since my last post not only have we found ourselves deep into a global pandemic. I have moved all my fitness classes to virtual formats, I quit my nutrition coaching job, and now find myself with not only virtual fitness classes but also virtual cooking and crafting classes too – which is what brings me here today.

On Tuesday, I was making Lasagne live in my Facebook group and asked if viewers wanted me to show them how I make my garlic cheese drop biscuits. The people said yes so I did, and then they wanted the recipe – so here we are.

The truth is, I took a couple regular drop biscuit recipes and tested them out and made my own, so while this is a garlic cheese drop biscuit recipe, you can absolutely make plain biscuits using this recipe by omitting the cheese, garlic and parsley. Easy peasy.

I don’t have a million beautiful photos of these biscuits because it was a spur of the moment decision and I only had a small window of time to eat supper before teaching Zumba so you’ll have to forgive my lack of food photography today.

Yield: 4-8

Garlic Cheese Drop Biscuits

Garlic Cheese Drop Biscuits

These are the perfect accompanimentfor lasagne, spagetthi or any other tomato based pasta - enjoy!

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time
Total Time 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 Tbsp white sugar
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder or 1-2 cloves fresh garlic minced
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/4 cup butter, chilled
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2-2/3 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, dried parsely and garlic poweder in a bowl. (If using fresh garlic, wait until step 3 to add it)
  3. Cut in butter by dicing into cubes and adding to flour mixture, or shred it on your cheese shredder to make it combine faster. I like to use a spatula to mix the butter and flour mixture at first, then get in there with clean hands and mix well until mixture looks like small crumbs.
  4. Add shredded cheese (and fresh garlic if using) and mix
  5. Add milk slowly until a sticky dough forms.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a greased or parchment lined cooking sheet. This recipe will make 4-8 biscuits depending on how big you make them.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Enjoy!

Notes

This recipe can easily be doubled.

These really are so easy, because they use baking powder instead of cream of tartar and are drop biscuits so you don’t have to knead/roll them out/cut them out they are something most of us can make quickly with what we have on hand and take very little skill to accomplish well. And that’s the kind of recipe we all need sometimes.

If you try them let me know how they turn out!
