The law of attraction can be wonderful – if you know how to use it. But so many people are missing a key step in the Law of Attraction and that’s what today’s podcast episode is all about!
The Problem With The Law of Attraction
Like Attracts Like
The law of attraction became popular a few years back when The Secret hit bookstores and TV Screens. I’ll be honest here, I haven’t read the book. I did watch the movie, and while it does a good job at the beginning to explain the law of attraction, it really does a disservice to it’s viewers by stopping where it does.
The law of attraction draws similar energies together. Which is why those who focus on the negative tend to only see the negative, and those who focus on the positive continue to see the positive.
I’m not convinced that having a negative focus means that more negative things happen to you, or that having a positive focus means only good things happen, but I do think that if you are generally positive, you’ll see the positive even in a bad situation diffusing the bad, and vice versa. Which is why it can *appear* as though more good things happen to “positive” people and more negative things happen to “negative” people.
In reality, I think it’s pretty equal, but the negative person will naturally see more negativity and the positive will see more positive.
The Law of Attraction
But back to the law of attraction. Where the law of attraction can go wrong is when we are told and believe that all we need to do is visualize what we want and it will be given to us.
That if we write ourselves a cheque for one million dollars and date it a year from now, all we need to do is visualize ourselves with that money and what our life will look like and the universe will give it to us.
Ahhhh…………… no so much.
You absolutely can write yourself a cheque for a million dollars and date it for next year. You can visualize what your life will look like and visualize you have all that money but if you want it to actually happen you need to take it one step further.
You need to take action.
Action is going to look different in every circumstance, but it means that you are going to do something to show the universe that you are ready for that thing you have been visualizing to come into reality.
If you believe that the universe is going to deliver a bag of money to your door one day you might pass on the job opportunity that came up that could have turned into your dream job and your million dollar paycheck.
In the podcast, I talk about Rose and Clara and how I believe I manifested them into reality.
Not only were we very clear about what we wanted in a pair of kittens, but I also took action by setting a notification on my phone anytime the SPCA posted so I could be sure not to miss then when our kittens finally showed up.
And they did!
Are you acting in a way that supports where you want to be?
Use the law of attraction to focus on what you want, getting very clear on what it is you want from the universe. Use a vision board or gratitude or future gratitude journal to help you become clear on what you want. But then – take action. Figure out what little thing you can do to show the universe you are ready and willing for that to come true.
Want to go to Italy? Maybe your action item is downloading Duolingo and start learning Italian.
Want to write a novel? Start by jotting down ideas in a notebook as they come to you.
Want to build your dream home but don’t yet have the money? Start by collecting ideas on a Pinterest board or in a scrapbook and put it out there in the universe that this is something you want.
The universe is watching!
If you show the universe you are ready and willing to do the work that accompanies your (clearly defined) dream – then, the law of attraction has a whole lot better chance of working for you.
