Today is the halfway point of winter, at least so I’m told. It’s also the time of year when many of us are really feeling the winter blahs, tired of the cold and snow and annoyances that come along with winter. So today I’ve decided to join Anne from Modern Mrs Darcy in her “What’s saving my life right now” post idea.
Some of these items are serious life savers, some are silly, some are fun, but all are making my winter life a little bit more enjoyable.
30Rock
They recently added all the seasons of 30Rock to Amazon Prime and we’ve been watching it every night before bed. Because I teach every evening, I tend to miss a lot of the evening TV shows so had only seen about 1/4 of the episodes so it’s been really fun starting from episode one and working our way through. It’s especially great that it’s a 30-minute show, so without commercials, it’s about 22 minutes so you can easily get in 3 episodes in just over an hour.
The big thing I find when binge-watching TV shows is you either grow to hate the opening sequence or adore it. I tend to adore them, even if I start out hating them, hahaha. At any rate, I told my husband the other night that for some reason I am filled with glee each time I see Alec Baldwin to that turn.
Glee I tell you. G-L-E-E
Leg Warmers
The 80’s are back! Not really, but I asked for a pair of leg warmers for Christmas as I was tired of having 5-6 inches of bare leg the days I wore cropped workout pants to classes.
They have done wonders at keeping my legs warm and I just adore them so much. However, I need to get another pair that are plain because the days I wear patterned pants with patterned leg warmers – well I look extra super crazy
(you can see what I mean if you look through my OOTD Instagram Story Highlights). I see they have these still at Ardene’s so I might swing in and see if they are in stock at my local store. They would fit the bill perfectly.
Bite Agave Lip Mask + Lip Scrub
Yes, I already told you about this in my post last week on the 5 best treatments for dry, chapped lips, but the truth is the truth.
The lip mask has been the #1 way I’ve been treating my sore lips this year, and the scrub really has helped to remove that dry skin which makes them feel so much nicer while still healing.
Amazon Music
How did I not know that with Amazon Prime here in Canada we got a music streaming service? I have the free Spotify membership because I don’t use it super often so the ads don’t bother me, but now that I know I don’t have to listen to ANY ads I’m all over Amazon’s app. As I type I’m listening to the All 2000s playlist, heck yeah! I’m sure it’s old news to my friends in the US but the Amazon Prime benefits here in Canada were a bit slower to get rolling. Needless to say, I’m pretty pumped.
After Shokz Trekz Titanium
I reviewed the Trekz Titanium headphones last summer, but I’ve found myself using them more and more since then. I adore that I can use them for taking calls so I can have my hands free while on a conference call, and it’s a delight to wear these while weight lifting as I don’t have to worry about getting tangled in cords or having them fall out of my ear. I’m not sure why suddenly I feel like they are saving my life, but I seriously feel that way. So between this and the last item, I’m all set for listening 😉
Canva iPhone App
I upgraded my phone back in December and I finally have a phone with enough space that I can go around adding apps willy-nilly to see how I like them. This is quite the novelty as my last phone had 16gb of space and I was operating with the absolute bare essentials at all times. So it was only a few weeks ago that I added the Canva app to my phone and I flipping love it. It offers some different templates on mobile (like instastory and snapchat) and I find it makes my job so much easier as I can do more on the fly with just my phone.
Honourable Mention: Baked Bacon
I would like to also throw an honourable mention out to baked bacon. I’ve taken to baking a package of bacon in the oven each weekend and it’s so much easier than cooking on the stove top, and I really like having a pile of bacon cooked and ready to go during the week. I line a baking pan with tin foil, then lay the bacon out in one layer, and bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes until crispy. I do take it out and drain the fat halfway through and flip the bacon but other than that it’s a no-fuss way to get your bacon on. It’s a delight.
I’m sure there are other things that are saving my life right now, but these are the first I thought of so I’m going to wrap it up here.
What about you? What’s saving your life right now? And don’t forget to head over to Modern Mrs. Darcy to see what Anne and others have declared as their life savers!
Linda P. says
I am definitely going to try the baked bacon. Do you cover it with tin foil or parchment so it doesn’t splatter?
Suzi says
Nope! I haven’t found it to splatter that much, especially if you take it out at the halfway point and get rid of the extra fat
I am SO intrigued by the baked bacon! How is this only an honourable mention?
Also I love this post and its positivity and fun. I’ll have to try sharing some of my current favourites/life savers at some point.
I honestly had no clue we got TV and music on Amazon Prime, when I had the free trial it was just shipping. good to know!
The TV wasn’t all that great when it first came out but keeps getting better. And the TV in our bedroom is a Smart TV but we don’t have a cable box for it so we only use it for Netflix and Amazon, so we’ve made a nice daily habit of watching a few episodes before bed each night. So I can get all cozy in bed which is quite lovely!
I know, bacon should have been the #1 thing on the list really, lol
I LOVE that bite agave lip mask!! It’s like instant relief!! Also 30 rock is so SO funny I might need to watch it all again.
the lip scrub and mask is legit still saving my life right now. I’m so over allergies!
