30 Before 30

Posted October 26th, 2011 by Suzi and filed in Goals

First of all, thanks to everyone and your sweet comments on my last post.  While honestly, the original comment that was left didn’t upset or bother me (I just thought it made for a good blog post) it’s nice to know I’ve got so many people in my corner! :D

In fine Suzi style, I’ve left this to the last minute.  I guess I work best under pressure, because I always seem to leave these things not to the very last minute, but close enough that it puts the pressure on.  With that in mind, it seems most people create these sorts of lists a year before the date giving themselves a good 365 days to work on them.  My 30th birthday will be on December 15th which give me 50 days.  At least I’ve left myself more than 30 days – now that would be leaving things to the last minute!

So while this list won’t be filled of the exciting things that many people put on lists like this that include travelling to other countries or big trips and adventures, it will be filled will things I’ve never done and have always wanted to or planned to and now is time to get ‘em done!

Without further ado – my list:

  1. Watch E.T.
  2. Read all 6 Jane Austen books {I’ve already read Pride & Prejudice, Sense & Sensibility, Emma, and am currently reading Northanger Abbey which leaves only Mansfield Park and Persuasion}
  3. Make a chocolate lava cake from scratch
  4. Go to a movie all. by. myself {as discussed on my friend Emily’s blog – though I promised then to do it I still haven’t …..}
  5. Take my niece and nephew to the movies
  6. Learn how to play cribbage
  7. Buy myself an expensive and completely un-necessary designer handbag
  8. Take a trip to the spa!!!
  9. Anonymously help a friend in need
  10. Beat my Lego Harry Potter game
  11. Create a photo book of my trip to Florida
  12. Try Poutine
  13. Watch the first season of Alias {J bought it for me a year ago and I haven’t watched a single episode}
  14. Create a list of “101 Things to do in 1001 days” to start the day after my birthday {what can I say?  I like lists!}
  15. Organize my “misc” email folder.  That sucker is a hold all for everything.  This one alone may take me 50 days :/
  16. Watch “Gone With the Wind”
  17. Paint the basement door {my dad hung it about two years ago and it still has only the primer on it}
  18. Hold both Half Moon Pose {Ardha Chandrasna} & Warrior III {Virabhadrasana III} for 30 seconds or longer each – on both legs
  19. Take an entire weekend off from working, emails, phone calls, facebook/twitter/blogging.  The whole works!
  20. Host a Wii-mbledon & Wii Sports Resort Competition Night {this will depend on getting our basement finished prior to my birthday – keep your fingers crossed!!}
  21. Begin a Project 365 on my birthday to capture the first year of my 30’s in daily photos
  22. Have a Cosmopolitan
  23. Start a “Cupcake of the Month” series on my blog :D
  24. Run a total of 30km {1 km for each year!}
  25. Write 15 blog posts {not including this one}
  26. Make & freeze 10 meals {so we don’t go hungry on those crazy work days!}
  27. Learn how to start a knitting project {I always get my mom to do the first two rows for me}
  28. Make at least three gifts to give away this Christmas
  29. Set up an automatic monthly deposit to our emergency savings & regular savings accounts
  30. Raise/donate $200 for Christmas Daddies

It was actually really hard for me to make this list, possibly because I’m on such a tight deadline.  I actually think the 101 things in 1001  days list will be easier since I’ll have nearly three years to work on them but I could still use some help.  If you have any ideas for items to put on my 101 things in a 1001 days list please leave me a comment or send me an email {suzi@confessionsofafitnessinstructor.com}

    Well you centainly have a postitive outlook; much better than mine….pretty sure I’m still in denial and angst over that dirty word ***shhhh*** 30. Your list is fun to read it actually has attainable goals, mine not so much. Most invole running away from the valley and/or doing things that probably aren’t in my reality. I didn’t even have a cake this year and I bought two incredibly expensive wrinkle creams….probably not a surprise since one of my “worst fears” in a CALM/PAL project we had to do was neck wrinkles…
    The only way I can look at it is at least I’m aging and not dead, right??
    Maybe the 4-GULP-0 will be much easier to take…although maybe I’ll just start saving for an island retreat for Oct 17th 2021 and forget the day happened, DENIAL baby!!

    P.S you should forsure eat poutine, make sure it has curds.(I can’t believe you haven’t)…but dont judge like or dislike on NS stuff…it’s not real unless it’s from Quebec, seriously I have that stuff pumping through my veins :-)

      Meh, I really could care less about the turning 30 thing. It is what it is. Besides dude, 30 is the new 20! And I’m sure the anti-wrinkle cream will help :D

      Seems as though it’s a good thing I’ll be starting with the inferior poutine, if I started with the best everything else in comparison would be a disappointment. At least this way when I do go to Montreal sometime, I can get the real deal and see how much better it is.

    Love the list!

    Did you know my initials are E.T. and since I was born a couple months after the movie came out I have had many e.t. relate gifts, and of course many references to the movie over the years! E.T. phone home. Hope you enjoy it (it is a wee bit sad though)!

    Oh wow, you need to chill :) Take it from someone who has somewhat recently been there. It is hard to believe, but turning 30 is honestly no big deal after the fact. It is all very ho-hum now, 31 big deal, 32 whatevs, 33 been there. It is great that you have a list (I ♥ lists) and by all means, work on the list; but trust me, it does not matter if you get every thing done, you can still do them when you are 30! It sounds to me like you are trying to accomplish all these things to “qualify” to be 30 and get on with the “rest of life”. I may be off-base there, but that is how I felt and I was totally wrong!

    For goodness sakes try some poutine!

      I know we already talked about this on facebook, I”m only replying here too so that anyone else with the same thoughts/concerns will be able to read my response.

      I’m actually not at all anxious, concerned, worried, etc. about turning 30. It really doesn’t matter to me at all, because I’ve had such a long stretch of writers block I though this would be a fun thing to do to give me something to blog about. As far as I know, the only thing you need to do to qualify for your 30th birthday is to live to see it – and God willing I’ll be able to do that! :)

      Most of the things on this list revolve around things I really need to do or should do as it is, the exercise related ones are because I desperately need to cross train (all Zumba all the time is a recipe for muscle imbalance and injure which for me is no good!), and this poor 29 year old body has been clocking 12-19 hours of exercise each week for the past 4 years and is crying for a professional massage (the last one I had was over 5 years ago).

      And really – doesn’t every girl want a reason to buy an outrageously expensive handbag? I think so ;)

      If I get everything on the list done – great! If I don’t, whatev life will go on.

      As for the poutine, I’ve always been afraid to try it because I’m scared it’ll make me sick. I guess time will tell on the one!

    You young’in you!
    Great list. Don’t watch E.T. It scared the crap out of me when I was little and I still hate that little creep to this day. I love cribbage! Hubby and I used to play it all the time before we had kids. Those yoga poses sound deadly!
    Maybe you could add, “buy 30 things from Lululemon” HAHA..then you wouldn’t have any $$ to put in your savings accounts.

      Hmmm, sounds like me with Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. I’ve never been able to watch the “large Marge” section of the movie ever since it scared me as a kid! lol

      Good grief, no kidding I’d have no money to put into savings if I did that, chances are I’d have a big fat credit card bill to deal with if I bought that much lululemon!!

    Great list, I think it is totally doable! And I am in complete agreement with #7. I think I’ll have to add that one to my 33 before 33 list! ;)
