Homemade Granola

Posted June 27th, 2010 by Suzi and filed in Recipes

I didn’t get a chance to make my granola last Thursday, I ended up spending the entire evening pricing stuff for the yardsale we’ll be having in two weeks time.  Today wasn’t too hot out though so this afternoon I made a batch.  Since it’s pretty easy, and super yummy, I thought I’d share my recipe.

step6

Homemade Granola

Ingredients

  • 3 cups oats
  • 1 cup of almonds (or your nut of choice)
  • 1/3 cup of sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 14 cup canola oil
  • 2 Tbsp Orange Juice
  • dash of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and then mix oats, nuts, and seeds together in a large bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl stir oil, honey, sugar, juice and salt together. tip: If you measure out your oil in your 1/4 measuring cup before measuring out your honey, you’ll coat the measuring cup in oil and the honey won’t stick to the cup.
  3. Combine the contents of the two bowls.
  4. Spread mixture onto 2 cookie sheets - you can spray the cookie sheets with a non-stick cooking spray first if you’re into that sort of thing ;)
  5. Bake for approximately 20 minutes (until evenly browned). Let cool. Place granola in an airtight container.

Yummy!

I’m not sure how long this will keep because it never makes it past 5 or 6 days in my house!

If you’d like to add dried fruit to your granola (like apricots), add the fruit after baking the granola.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
