Easy Pizza Dough
As I write this, I’ve got Oprah on in the background and she is talking to Jamie Oliver who is going to be in a new show on ABC called “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” about trying to change the eating habits of a town in America deemed the “unhealthiest in the country”.
What has prompted this post is the mother he was visiting, they looked in her freezer and it was FULL of frozen pizzas and other frozen meals/snacks. Now to be 100% honest, just this morning I bought 3 McCain’s 3 Cheese Pizza’s for my husband because they were on sale, but that is a very rare occurrence.
Due to the combined health issues and dietary restrictions my husband and I have, I make almost all of our meals from scratch. Only recently we discovered that my husband can eat the pizza I mentioned above, so he’s had that once a week since, but other than that our food is all homemade.
Having said that, pizza is my favorite (and his favorite) so we tend to have that once/week. I don’t mean to toot my own horn, but I make a pretty damn good pizza. I make my dough from scratch (which for you frozen pizza eaters, only takes a couple minutes) and is SO much tastier than any store bought dough or frozen pizza.
Many times when I tell people I make my pizza dough from scratch they are surprised and wonder what the recipe is so today I’ve decided to share my pizza dough recipe with all of you in hopes that instead of buying another frozen pizza you’ll take the extra few minutes and make a pizza from scratch.
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 1/4 teaspoons quick rise yeast
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
- 2 1/2 cups flour (I use white flour but you could use a white/whole wheat mix)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1tsp sugar
- pizza sauce, cheese and toppings of your choice
Instructions
- Pre-heat oven to 425
- Add the ingredients into a bowl in the order listed above then mix to combine.
- Cover and let dough rest (somewhere warm if possible) for 5-10 minutes
- Knead dough lightly then recover and let it rest another 10-15 minutes until it has nearly doubled in size.
- In the meantime, grease your pizza pans, prepare your toppings and shred your cheese
- Stretch dough out onto two medium sized pizza pans (or do what we do - use one large pizza pan and a smaller square pan for garlic fingers!)
- Bake in oven for 10-14 minutes until golden and delicious!
- Let the cooked pizzas set for 2 or 3 minutes before cutting into slices and enjoy!
The saddest part of pizza night? When all the pizza is gone

Great post! Ironically, I am making pizza for dinner tonight…taco pizza! And of course I make my own dough too! YUM.
